John Debo (BOS)

John Debo is a master manipulator of modular tech. Having purged himself of studio software to return to the open-ended creative freedom of his original analogue roots, the maverick DJ/Producer is surfing an inspired wave of modular experimentation, where the beauty of simplicity is everything. Where the creative process is stripped back to the essence of what true individuality means, where a single analogue instrument dictates a whole new workflow and a brand new spiralling web of creative possibilities. New York born and Boston-bred, John Debo is undoubtedly a pioneer of underground dance music culture. His club nights at Venus De Milo, Axis & Avalon in Boston, carry legendary status, having laid a strong foundation for the now flourishing electronic music scene in the USA. Whether on the decks, in the studio, or (in recent years) sharing his knowledge as an Sinstructor at Mmmmaven, music is always at the forefront for John Debo. With a multitude of releases on the likes of Bedrock, Selador, Fade, Sound Avenue, Stripped, We Are Here Music and his own long-running Mindwarp imprint as perfect examples, he is a master of his chosen craft and shows no sign of slowing the pace anytime soon. Debo’s artistic adventures through 2017 continued on an evolving, exciting trajectory. Besides his exceptional ‘Ode to Jack’ / ‘Shifty’ (ATL002) release on BOg’s newly launched Atlant Recordings, he created two equally beguiling remixes for 3LIAS and Ali Ajami’s ‘Audio Culture’ on his own Mindwarp label, and a stunning interpretation of Luca Doobie’s ‘The Pale King’ on Tulipa Recordings. Further continuing his exploration of modular shaped Techno, he also delivered a remix of ‘…MATH’ (KBA018) for Fhloston Paradigm, the stargazing alter ego of veteran Philly electronic artist King Britt. With numerous new studio projects waiting in the wings and set to be revealed, an inspired and exceptionally creative John Debo will be one to watch throughout 2018.

"The core notion of the festival … isn’t just to provide a good time, but to illustrate the fertile mix of art and technology intrinsic to current-day Boston."

"The sixth edition of Together ... was a reminder of how much Boston still has to offer for the tribes of dance music fans who live here ... Despite its size, Together pulled off an impressive range of sounds from across the electronic spectrum."
